So Like… Where is This Going?

Four words every commitment-phobe dreads – “Where is this going?” It’s the opening line to that awkward conversation that no one wants to have.

It’s the defining moment of a relationship where one person(usually the girl, let’s be honest) wants to label/title what you’re doing. You’ve managed to avoid the conversation up until now, because it could potentially ruin what you have going on. Some people are happy to just go with the flow but after a while one of you will want some consistency. In the movie ‘That Awkward Moment‘ –  Zac Efron refers to this situation as the ‘so moment’. He says nothing good ever follows the ‘so’…

He’d be right too.

This ‘so’ talk will decide whether you’re moving forward… or moving on!

Examples of the ‘So’:

So… what are we doing here?

So… where is this going?

So… are we in a relationship?

You Mean Like a Date?

Whether you met them on Tinder, met them through a friend, already knew them or they’re a randomer mailing you on Facebook (it happens) – you’re going to dread the first date. It doesn’t matter what the situation, first dates are often terrible and are never like what you see in the movies. First of all, ain’t nobody gonna climb up a ferris wheel at the local fair to ask your ass out. We don’t even have a local fair so you can get that idea out of your head. What you might get is a Facebook mail or a text message, or if they have the mentality of a fifteen-year-old a “will you go out with my mate” might pop up from time to time. Christ!

Trouble, Trouble, Trouble…

Once upon a time, a few mistakes ago…… And well, you know the rest!

It’s not a new thing that good girls love going for a bad boy, it has always been this way. It’s not necessarily anything they do or say but it’s the feeling you get when you’re around them. Bad boys aren’t always covered in tattoos and you won’t find them casually standing by their car, smoking – that’s the Hollywood stereotype. The real bad boys have nice hair, good jobs and they say all the right things.

While the bad guys clean up with the ladies, the nice guys wait on the sidelines claiming that women ”prefer to be treated like crap” – and for some reason this seems to be true. You go for the ones who you know are trouble, who aren’t going to treat you well or buy you flowers. The ones who will only call you when they have nothing better to do. The ones who will send you to the brink of madness and manipulate you until finally enough is enough and you decide to call it off……for a while anyway. Because let’s be honest you’ll go back to them and the whole thing will happen all over again because like a magnet you’re drawn to their ‘take it or leave it’ attitude. But why?

The Justin Bobby Factor

Remember Justin Bobby from The Hills? Lad with the motorcycle and glorious, flowing locks? Yep!

Remember how he would just show up on his cool bike whenever he felt like it! He would mess Audrina around and then when she decided she’d had enough she would end things with him, for like a week. It never bothered him because he knew she would come crawling back.Which she did, many a time. He even kissed another girl in front of her and then convinced her she didn’t really see it and that she was just ”believing what she wanted to see”. And she agreed with him. Mind f*****g at its very best!

In classic Justin Bobby style he once gave Audrina a promise ring as a sign of his commitment to her….  and then he did a complete 360 and she basically never heard from him again.

Ah, Justin Bobby – he had lovely hair but my god that boy was a weirdo.

justin bobby

And he really didn’t care, he was just going along for the ride – literally!

But really… Why?

Some girls just gravitate towards guys who are bad news. But why when there are so many nice ones to go out with?

1. The chase and the challenge – Most people enjoy a challenge and going after the ungettable. The bad ones keep you on your toes. They reel you in and make you fall for them and then they take a step back and suddenly you’re the one chasing them. It’s all a game that you unknowingly enter yourself into. You keep playing because it’s far too interesting not to.

2. It’s not sustainable – Maybe deep down you know you’re not ready for a real relationship, so subconsciously you go for guys who you know it will never work out with. You take comfort in the fact that this lunatic will never be your husband so you justify it by saying ”ah sure it’s grand for now”. It’s like falling for someone who lives on the other side of the world, or someone younger or someone you work with. Ultimately its never going to end well but you don’t want it to anyway, right?

3.  The dramatics of it all – You just don’t know what stunt they’re going to pull on you next and you can’t help but stick around to find out. You might not get a promise ring but what you might get is a nice watch and an earful of cliched lines such as ” it’s you, it’s always been you and it always will be you” – a classic!

But just like JB they’ll deliver the grand gesture and then go back to their shady ways. Never a dull moment and this is why you keep going back.

4. The game-changer – Most women have a built in need to fix things and/or people. So you pick the troubled, tortured one to go out with because you want to ‘fix’ them. You think you can be the one to change them, to make them ditch their womanizing ways. You want them to settle down with you, drink tea and watch The Notebook.  It’s the fairytale mentality, you want to be the exception not the rule.
VIctor, Victrola

Unless you’re Blair Waldorf you’re probably never going to turn a bad boy good. But if nothing else at least you’ll get a good story out of it, learn absolutely nothing and move on to the next one.

Ah women! If you ever do find yourself wondering where all the nice guys are, more than likely they’re in the friendzone where you left them.

Paris Fashion Week AW14 Highlights!

From Vinyl trench coats at Miu Miu to a faux-supermarket runway at Chanel – Paris Fashion Week was the perfect end to an epic season. It might be Ready-To-Wear Autumn/Winter 14′ but yellow, orange and bright blue tones consumed the catwalks in the French capital.

Karl Lagerfeld in a supermarket? Never – but a Chanel supermarket boasting aisles stocked with ‘little black teas’ and ‘coco’ pops – yes! Not to mention the models sauntering around carrying baskets draped in Chanel silver chains. Too amazing!

The Chanel presentation was possibly the most spectacular of the week. Lagerfeld’s AW14 collection is sporty, streetwise and chic. With glitter speckled leggings and bright, textured, over-sized coats, Karl Lagerfeld knows how to please the Chanel lady. Cara Delevingne walked the aisles/catwalk in a ripped bubblegum pink two-piece. The show ended with an overhead announcement ‘Dear valued customer, the Chanel store is now closing. Please feel free to pick up your complimentary fruit and vegetables before you leave’. Enough said!

Christian Dior

Since Raf Simons took over as Director in 2012, it was only a matter of time before his amazing sportswear vision dominated. The Dior presentation was a mix of masculine tailored coats, teamed with a vivid palette of pink, yellow, green and blue frills. His structured, extravagant skirts are likely to be the key piece of the season!

Miu Miu

This collection is all about the weather-concious woman with plastic, draw string boots and colourful, vinyl trench coats. Designer Miuccia Prada’s feminine streak was apparent in every look, with metallic pastels a notable trend.  Miu Miu AW14 is practical, stylish and fun!

The Oscars 2014 – Red Carpet Report

Hollywood’s biggest movie stars graced the red carpet last night for the 86th annual Academy Awards at the Dolby Digital theatre. Ellen DeGeneres hosted the ceremony for a second time, except this time she ordered pizza for the A-list audience and passed it around on paper plates. Yes really!

There has been some serious contenders this year with the likes of 12 Years A Slave, Dallas Buyers Club and Gravity nominated for numerous awards including ‘Best Picture’. Unsurprisingly, the critically acclaimed 12 Years A Slave picked up the most coveted award for ‘Best Picture’.

The Red Carpet

As well as the classic black gowns, there was a lot of light, neutral tones this year, with statement necklaces also an apparent trend. Among some of the best dressed were ‘Best Supporting Actress’ nominees, Lupita Nyong’o and Jennifer Lawrence.

The 12 Years A Slave actress continued to wow critics in a plunging, pastel blue Prada number(now being dubbed ‘Nyrobi blue’), teamed with a Fred Leighton Jewels headband and earrings. This lady has owned the red carpet this entire awards season. Between her bold colour choices and form-fitting gowns, she can literally do no wrong. The 31-year-old picked up the Oscar for ‘Best Supporting Actress’ for her role as Patsey in the movie.

She said “It doesn’t escape me for one moment that so much joy in my life is thanks to so much pain is someone else’s. And so I want to salute the spirit of Patsey”.  The Kenyan native ended her eloquent speech saying “No matter where you’re from, your dreams are valid”.

Jennifer Lawrence was stunning in red Dior Couture. She kept it all about the dress with soft hair and effortless make-up. Plus, she fell down about 10 seconds after getting out of the car. Classic J-Law, that is definitely a new record.

Margot Robbie was barely recognisable. She has gone to the dark side! The star from The Wolf Of Wall Street has ditched her blonde locks and is looking extremely vampy and sexy in this black Saint Laurent dress.

epresE! News presenters – Kelly Osbourne in Badgley Mischka and Giuliana Rancic in Paolo Sebastian.

Collageofcoup……and yes that is Pharrell Williams(middle) in a pair of shorts! No hat though. Matthew McConaughey also donned a white suit jacket, he won the award for ‘Best Actor’ for his role in Dallas Buyers Club.

One of the best moments of the night (other than Ellen ordering pizza for everyone) – The Oscar selfie a.k.a. the selfie of the century!

and of course last but not least, The hot men in suits!

From top: Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Zac Efron, Leonardo Di Caprio and Jared Leto( winner of ‘Best Supporting Actor’ for his role in Dallas Buyers Club). Some man for one man – rocking the balayage, beachy waves and a white suit jacket. Hard to believe he is 42.
